WHY I ATTEND ST. LUKE'S UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST

Please place cursor on a picture to read what
these members say about St. Luke's.

"We like attending St. Luke's because we enjoy the adult Sunday School class. We enjoy the sermons - they are short and to the point. We enjoy the music - both voice choir and bell choir. We have a growing, active youth program at St. Luke's. We have many friends we have known most of our lives. "

I like attending St. Luke's because it's like a second home to me. Everyone knows who you are and they genuinely care about how you are and what's new in your life. It's a church full of compassionate people.

"I like attending St. Luke's because of David's thought provoking sermons..especially the old stories with the new "twist". Both choirs are great and I love being surrounded by loving, caring people. "

Pastor David Lyon is loving and caring. He's there, with a prayer, if you are in the hospital, recovering at home, or need someone to talk to. Doesn't drag out his sermons, often adds humor.

"Our family enjoys attending St. Luke's because of the fellowship. We get the chance to spend time with family and friends and share God's Word at the same time. Our church has a great history that we are proud to be members. We are blessed to have a wonderful church family that has been with us through both happy and sad times."

"I started attending St. Luke's UCC in 1967 because it was my husband's church! I truly appreciate the warmth and love the members show each other. We are a church that doesn't judge individuals but accepts them no matter where they are on their faith journey. God is still speaking in this church and we are listening."

"I like attending St. Luke's because the people are friendly and they support the youth in many ways. David's sermons are meaningful for all ages - including teens (and they are short!). When I was 12 I was confirmed at St. Luke's and during confirmation we were encouraged to study and pray and think for ourselves. I appreciate knowing that God gave us choices to believe the way we want to while appreciating other's beliefs."

"From our very first visit, we felt comfortable at St Luke's. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. David's sermons are always uplifting, not judgemental. Plus- we like to hear how he will incorporate baseball into the sermon! "

I find St. Luke's to be a wonderful blend of tradition and progressiveness that has indeed filled me with comfort and joy! The worship service is comforting and stimulating. The music is inspirational. The fellowship is abundant and satisfying. We are an eclectic congregation of unique and loving people, coming together to share our beliefs. God, indeed, is still speaking!"

"Our family attends St. Luke's because it is a part of my history. I grew up attending St. Luke's with my family, went to Sunday School there, was confirmed and married there, and our two children were baptized there. The people there have always been a part of my life. Even though my family now lives in Prairie Village, KS, we still drive to St. Luke's because I can't imagine attending anywhere else!"

"We started going to St. Luke's because we wanted an active youth group for our boys. And we found it here and much more. Pastor David is a man among many. We are truly blessed to have him. The people make you feel at home and that you are a part of the church family."

"I attend St. Luke's UCC because I find the services inspiring and uplifting. The church is alive with ministry and activities for all ages. I especially enjoy being a member of the choir and the fellowship that we experience together. The people of the congregation have been very warm and welcoming to me. "

"I like attending St. Luke's because it has been my lifelong church home. Our worship services are traditional and familiar. I look forward to David's meaningful "to the point" messages and to the variety of musical offerings from Boyd, our choirs, and individuals."

"Forty-five years ago our family moved to Independence and St. Luke's became our Church home. Our four children were baptised and confirmed at St. Luke's, grew up in Sunday School, VBS, Junior Choir, Youth Fellowship and worship here. Through the years, the Sunday doses of inspiration, worship and fellowship have kept me spiritually alive. It's home!"

"I like attending St. Luke's because the building has been recently renovated to be more conducive to worship plus the meaningful banners hanging in the Sanctuary. The sermons are inspiring and well-illustrated with relevant stories. The music is wonderful with our multi-talented organist, pianist, and vocal and bell choir director Boyd Ahrens."

"I like attending St. Luke's because each Sunday with church friends and family helps prepare me for the weeks ahead. I am always looking forward to seeing young children and youth take an active part in church, Sunday School, and activites. I have many wonderful memories of past members and their contribution to the building and faith structure of St. Luke's."

"We attend St. Luke's because of the memories! June attended Sunday School and church there since she was a little girl. She sang in the choir & served on Board of Christian Education. We were married 6-11-1946 in the "Old Stone Church". Bob served on the building committee of the new sanctuary and talked the others into our back lighted cross. He was financial secretary and remembers when the church could hardly get money to pay gas & insurance bills due in January. He also has great memories of an active Men's Fellowship & annual pancake breakfasts."

 There are many reasons
why people choose to
worship at St. Luke's.

  We welcome you to
our church and hope
you find your own reason
to attend.
